Great to read you recommendations. I agree with many of your comments and I am just about to read Oscar Wao. There is nothing like a good book... The best book I read in 2008? The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by J.D Bauby. Read it and marvel at his attitude. The film by Julian Schnabel is incredible.

I started reading your blog because I want to start my own (just for my friends and me) and I thought yours could teach me how to be honest and personal, but not self-indulgent. I'm of the camp that thinks "Who cares about YOUR plight?" but I don't think writing about yourself automatically equals pretentious. (BTW, that article by that girl who worked for Gawker or whatever, I remember fucking hating it. She was pretentious and dramatic. It gets you talking, but only because people like to discuss how annoying someone is.) I really like your blog.

I've only read a couple of your blog posts. But a couple of your posts are enough to prove you are prodigious and charming. I liked your post where you talked about how you can't internalize complements the same way you internalize critisism. I really related to it. (Except I doubt I get as many compliments as you do and I doubt I get them from people as cool.) I don't agree with everything you said (I disagreed with how you said that if the public knows about politics it doesn't affect politics), but it's obvious that you're sharp. INTERNALIZE IT, WOMAN. I also don't like Jezebel (maybe it was just the few posts I read, but, again, pretentious and overrated), but if I have an "online feminist hero," it would be you. OK... you might hate this compliment, but you are an example of an attractive woman who's not overly "feminine." As in, you don't always wear makeup, you speak your mind etc. Oh, and just because I want you to know that you rock, you're beautiful. (And proving progressive woman can be hotties, too.)

INTERNALIZE IT, JEEZ.

I'll buy a copy of your book for me and most of my buddies.

I'm having a really bad time right now and it's mostly self-esteem issues. I took a bad route (because of a lot of things but also because of self-esteem issues) and now that I'm off of it I still feel like shit for having been on it. So, when I read you feel shitty, it was really important for me to tell you, that I know compliments can't fix things like this, but that I genuinely think you're aces. What bothers me most are the stupid things I said and I guess I want you to know, that from what I read on Jossip, you don't say stupid things. (Whoa. Do I give the worst compliments ever? "You are not stupid.")

I hope you feel better, dude.
