So Vampire Weekend is big. Really big. Their album debuted at 17 on the Billboard charts. They’re being name dropped in articles about pseudo hip Park Slope parents. I wish I were mature than this, but I’m not: I knew about them first.
As VW grew more popular, I prepared myself for a backlash. But yesterday, I finally got some tracks from their new album. And it’s really great. So who cares if Park Slope parents like them, too?
VW graduated from Columbia a year after I graduated from Barnard. I recognize a few of them from campus. One of them lived in the same suite as a crush of mine; another one was a regular at my favorite bar.
One of the first times I was ever in Grand Central by myself, I was sitting on the east steps, overlooking the Main Concourse. I remember thinking that everyone walking through the station had a story that I would never know. Looking back on my vague recollections of seeing members of Vampire Weekend around campus, I realize I know part of their story now.

They’re even playing them on the one good Spanish radio station: http://katieprofunda.wordpress.com/2007/12/01/spanish-radio-doesnt-completely-suck/
They recorded them pronouncing the name of the radio program “Siglo 21″ (21st century) because they love to have foreigners with their funny accents do it… You turned me on to them, what can I say. Wanna send me the new album?
